The Art House Café Lecture Series promotes the ideas of young and emerging scholars from regional universities and provides an opportunity for them to present their research through lectures in a Parisian café ambiance that encourages sharing inspiration and cultivating ideas.
The keynote lecture for this series will be presented on 16 November 2012 at 7pm by Virginia Eichhorn, prominent art historian and Director and Curator of the Tom Thomson Art Gallery in Owen Sound. Eichhorn’s talk, “Tom Thomson: The Man, The Myth, and Why He Means So Much To Us” will investigate Thomson’s personal and artistic appeal and the myriad ways that people choose to remember him and honour his legacy.
Virginia Eichhorn has been active in the arts community for more than twenty-five years. She is a member of the Aboriginal Curatorial Collective, has curated exhibitions featuring such prominent artists as Carl Beam, Judy Chicago and Vessna Perunovich and is published in numerous art periodicals including Canadian Art and Border Crossing Magazine.
The Art House Café Lecture Series is dedicated to the memory of Pat and Edith Brown.
The Grimsby Public Art Gallery is pleased to acknowledge the enthusiastic partnership of the Grimsby Public Library and the generous sponsorship of the Niagara Neighbourhood New Idea Fund, as well as private donations made in memory of Edith and Pat Brown. The Series is also sponsored by Lenore Kummel, Dr. Andy Lam, Dr. Donald G. Smith and Phelps Homes Ltd. We would like to extend our gratitude to Mr. Alan and Mrs. Margaret Goddard for their kind and generous sponsorship of the keynote lecture in this series.
